When is it Whale season?

humpback whale pec slap whale watching oahu

With up to 30 whale and dolphin species found in oceanic Hawaii, whale watching is all. year. round. We’ve been consistently encountering pilot whales this summer

Humpback whale season is Dec – April Ha! We knew you were thinking of those majestic humpies. The kohola return to Hawaii for mating rituals and raising newborn calves, here the same place they themselves were born. Spectacular behaviors!

Charters include (Mother Nature willing):

“Bucket-list” Whale Watching (year-round!) – We’re Fodor’s choice for Oahu whale watching, and CBS’s “Top Five American Whale Watching Tours“.

Sustainable tourism based Citizen Science protects Oahu wildlife – get your hands wet and mālama ke kai (“care for and protect the sea”).

Dolphin Encounters and Swimming With Wild DolphinsEvery tour is diverse, depending on the dolphins’ (nai’a) behaviors and sharing our expertise in maximizing your adventure. Typically Hawaii’s dolphins are social, curious, and interactive, we will often photograph and gather information at this time. If conditions are ripe, we can enter their underwater world and softly observe. We’ll brief you on dolphin “wet-iquette” and blue water safety ensuring that both you and the dolphins have a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Sight-seaing with Guided Snorkeling among giant Sea Turtles (honu) and brilliant Reef Fish (i’a) included, Mother Nature willing

Culture, Tradition and Natural History – Gain a sense of place watching aerial antics of pelagic seabirds, iconic dolphins, rugged landscapes, and snorkeling reefs with giant sea turtles and tropical fish – and the culture and traditions that frame them.

Indigenous knowledge combined with a flair for storytelling and an eye for finding wildlife. We take the time it takes, to go beyond expectations.

Intimate excursions (6 max passengers max)- You’re not just another face in the crowd – nor getting kicked in it either! Maximizing experience, minimizes impact to all. Enjoy a great lunch, shade (or sun), room to spare and a private bathroom. The health and safety of passengers, wildlife, and host community are always our priority.

Wild Side stamp of approval from the World Travel and Tourism Council

Clear water – 60 to 100 ft. visibility onboard viewing comparable to a glass bottom boat, warm-ish (76 to 82 F) water, at snorkeling depths from 10 to 80 feet (you can see the bottom!), make the adventure enjoyable for all snorkeling levels – as well for those staying onboard. Your in-water guides point out reef fish and activities – with their keen eyes, you’ll treasure what most miss! Blue water adventurer? You got it!

“Snorkeling w/ 5 people WAY WAY better than 25. Just love the intimate feel. So personalized”
– Kara Williams, VacationGal.com

Experience makes a difference – Oahu’s first (and only?) marine biologist and woman founded/owned/led charters adds a depth of knowledge and passion. Nurturing, dedicated professionals deeply in love with the ocean and marine life, only the best are selected for “making sense” of nature’s drama unfolding before you. Visit our crew page to view backgrounds, accomplishments and publications (women in science!), our yacht page to view our charter boat and amenities, and our tour page for further descriptions.

The Unequivocal Bucket List Experience!!!”

Guarantee? Nope, sorry it’s Mother Nature (and we don’t mess with her). Vacation time is valuable – if you don’t have time to do it right, you definitely won’t have time to do it over. We’ve found doing right by the wildlife (no pressure) gives you the best experience as well. Given that most of the whales and dolphins on our coastline are residents, they have come to trust our presence, as we also trust their right to space and free will.

Please Be Aware

Federal Law no longer allows us to get in the water with Hawaiian spinner dolphins in shallow water. Any in-water interactions with dolphins will be offshore and/or with one of our 17 other species of dolphins around Hawaii. Those opportunities are less frequent and always dependent on a variety of conditions including animal behavior.
